Field Trips
The big trip every year is a two-night, three-day stay at the NatureBridge Institute (formerly Marin Headland) in Sausalito. This overnight experience is an enriching addition to your child's academic program at school.
NatureBridge is a program of hands-on scientific exploration in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, located in the Marin Headlands just outside the city of Sausalito. Founded in 1972, NatureBridge is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to teaching science and environmental education in "nature's classroom" to inspire a personal connection to the natural world and responsible actions to sustain it. Science programs at NatureBridge are facilitated by an experienced, professional faculty. Instructors have a strong science and teaching background. Each instructor is also trained in wilderness first aid and CPR. Small group instruction encourages an understanding of the basic principles of ecology through an intimate association with the natural environment. The goal of the NatureBridge program is to broaden a student's awareness of the natural world and his/her relationship to it. This experience is an exceptional learning opportunity that gives real-life meaning to the science standards that students will be tested on this spring.
Additional field trips will be planned if parent volunteers are available. Volunteer forms (available in the office) and fingerprinting need to be completed no later than Thanksgiving. Possible field trips include the Discovery Museum, the California History Museum, and the San Jose Tech Museum.
